VIDEO Multi Shuttle for Singles Done Differently
The coach usually feeds multi shuttle whole court exercises with the racket – however feeding by throwing from the same side of the court can be pretty valuable.
Feeding from the same side for singles can look like this:
If working with large groups of children or beginners, feeding like this could be advantageous because it is much easier than feeding with the racket. If you, the coach, are not feeding yourself, you have the opportunity to coach not only on one court, but on all courts and so get to coach and correct all the players. Before starting you have to make clear how and where the players should feed and for safety reason it has to be clear that the player exercising is not making any cross court offensive shots to protect the feeders face and especially eyes.
Not only for organizational issue, feeding by throwing from the same side could be very useful. The position on the same side as the working player often allows for a more precise location of the shuttle but more important it allows controlling reaction time and movement velocity. Because the distance the shuttles travels is shorter and the time of release could be done in the last moment the coach can control exactly how much pressure is put on the player.
